There are 2 other similar species, E. semipurpurella and E. cicatricella.

The antennae of E. cicatricella are shorter than those of E. semipurpurella and E. sangii.

E. semipurpurella and E. sangii are difficult to distinguish. Further examination of the male genitalia required.
