Body length : Female : 7-11mm.  Male : 4-6mm.

There is a similar species in Europe, H. graminicola.

Further examination of the genitalia is required to identify this species.

H. graminicola is a rare species and usually not found in dry areas.

H. hirtus is common in the south.
