This species is difficult to distinguish from I. alyssumata and I. barbuti.

These 3 species are morphologically similar.

The tibia of the male hind leg of I. alyssumata and I. barbuti have no bristles.

I. typicata has two bristles.

I. barbuti is differentiated by its large size and notably by its very contrasting markings. More abundant dark grey. The discal spots on all four wings are very prominent and the postmedian line on the hindwings touches the discal spot.

I. barbuti is found in Braga, Portugal

I. typicata can be found in the French Alps and further to the east in Italy and Switzerland.
